What is this place?
This canon focuses on the city of Seaddle, a west coast city in the chilly north of Equestria. The world is pretty much as you'd recognize it in the show. This is a pony society with the occasional mythological creature wandering around, but there is a bit of a twist. "The Emerald City Chronicles" is a bit of a re imagining of the Friendship is Magic story.
The purpose of this canon was to give a lot more liberties and flexibility to characters while following the world of Equestria the way we've grown to love it in the show. What does this mean exactly? Well, for starters, the change of scenery. The group of friends known as the "Main 6" have, and always had, lived, or moved to, in Seaddle instead of Ponyville.
This creates new histories and opportunities for them and all the characters. For instance, instead of running a farm, the apple family's cider business in the city had created "Applebucks", a famous chain known for their delicious apple cider drinks. This is a whole different timeline so things like this are perfectly okay. Heck, Applejack could be a male instead! This canon is a place for "what ifs" that can play fluidly within the show.
On the other hoof, you don't have to change a thing if you don't want to. Rarity could be Rarity without a thing different except she lives in a different town. Anything that happens here doesn't affect any other canon, and anything that happens in the show doesn't have to affect the canon. This is a setting for roleplay where you can do those things you could never get away with in a more strict canon.

How is this different?
As stated before, "The Emerald City Chronicles" takes place in an alternate timeline. While most alternate reality roleplays often have a crossover theme, or even a completely new set of characters, ECC wishes to carry over these characters and give them a chance to stretch their legs in different societies or existences. Plus, some people just like fresh starts, and a nice fresh start away from Ponyville is what a lot of people have wanted. (FUN FACT: Did you know the show was originally supposed to take place in Fillydelphia?)
How can I join?
All we ask of people before joining the canon is to read the rules and submit, and have approved, one character so that it may be archived on the board. To submit a character, please find the thread on /ooc/ and fill out the short character sheet. Once it has been read by a canon mod and approved you are free to create and join as many threads as you like.
