S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Attributes
The stats for each characters are broken down into 3 sections. The first, and foundation of your character, is the SPECIAL attributes. The SPECIAL system is the base attributes of all ponies, regardless of races. SPECIAL is an acronym that breaks into the 7 attributes. They are, as follows, along with a brief explanation of their properties.
Strength: Determines how strong your pony is, physically. This will effect actions such as moving heavy objects, combat, and most all physical checks.
Perception: This determines how aware and open minded your pony can be. While a perceptive pony may not be the smartest, they can see this artisticly and conceptually that many others could miss. They are also more aware of their surroundings.
Endurance: Ponies with high endurance can go the distance. Whether it be running a mile, or pulling an all night study session, these ponies don't tire easily.
Charisma: Very charismatic ponies are the best at making friends and allies. They often make good performers as well and know how to win over others even in the most dire situations.
Intelligence: Book smarts! Intelligence is what makes ponies' gears turn. A pony with high intelligence is good at solving puzzles, maths and sciences, and even magic.
Agility: Like to move it? Agility is for you. Agile ponies are light on their hooves (or wings) and know how to get around quickly! They never seem to stumble and have an excellent sense of balance.
Luck: Luck, in a sense, affects everything and nothing. While, outside of chance, luck does not boost any talent or skill, it can be a factor to help tip the odds in your favor in anything you do.
Each of these skills can range between 1 and 10. Each level is about as follows.
Stat Description
0 Useless
1 Inept
2 Significantly Below Average
3 Below Pony Average
4 Adult Pony Average
5 Above Pony Average
6 Significantly Above Average
7 Highly Capable
8 Extremely Capable
9 Best in the Land
10 World-Class Ability
11 Legendary Ability
12 Best in the Universe
The only characters that can have a base stat above 10 are higher tier canon characters (Such as Celestia or Rainbow Dash). The number of points you are allowed to distribute among these stats is 35. Some higher tier canon characters may have more points but only if discussed with the mods prior to creation.
Every two skill points above average will gain you +1 modifier on a roll in which that stat is the base. For example, if you were trying to move a heavy object, and had a strength of 8, you would then add +2 to your roll. This modifier can also work against you. For every point you are bellow the average of 4, you lose -1 off your rolls in which that stat is the base. Using the heavy object example, if you tried to move a heavy object with a strength of 2, you would have to subtract two from your roll instead. In short, any stat bellow the average of 4 loses one off their role per point. Any stat higher than four gains one to their role divided by two, rounded down. Here is an example of a basic character's SPECIAL Attributes.
Strength: 6 (+1)
Perception: 2 (-2)
Endurance: 7 (+1)
Charisma: 6(+1)
Intelligence: 2 (-2)
Agility: 8 (+2)
Luck: 4 (+0)
Total: 35
As you can see, this character is very agile, therefor, their base of 10 gives them a +2 on rolls because 8 - 4 is 4, and 4 divided by 2 is 2. This +2 will also add to any skills that have agility as a relevant stat. However, their perception is one bellow average, giving them a -2 on all perception rolls because 4 - 2 is -2. This also gives them -2 on all skills that has perception as a relevant stat. If you do not wish to do this math you may just give us the stat base numbers and we'll publish the modifiers for you on your character's page.
You may also ask, "If only multiples of 2 get a +1 what's the point of ever having an odd stat?" Well, if you have an odd stat it's considered 'refined'. A player with a refined stat will always beat an NPC or another player without a refined stat if they draw on a base roll, even if the person without the refined stat has a higher modified value. A stat is only considered refined if it greater than 4.
